TU Berlin buzzed with international energy this summer! From July 28 to August 1, 2025, the TU Berlin became the meeting place for our third international Summer School. Under the theme “(Vocational) Schools for Well-Being”, students and lecturers in teacher education from South Africa, Australia, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, and Germany came together to learn, exchange ideas, and experience new perspectives.
The week started with lively get-to-know activities that quickly turned a group of strangers into an international learning community. Throughout the program, participants explored the concept of well-being in schools from different angles: What does well-being mean in education? What are main aspects in current research? And how can it be fostered in practice?
Through lectures, the group explored how well-being is studied and discussed, providing a foundation for the week in which different factors of well-being became both theoretically and practically tangible. The program touched on topics such as positive psychology, the influence of movement on childrens well-being, Happiness as a school subject, ways to establish a positive culture of debate in schools, and so much more!
Excursions offered further inspiration. The group visited an elementary school and a vocational school, gaining first-hand impressions of how well-being is approached in different educational settings. At the Futurium in Berlin, the focus shifted to perspectives on the future of society and education and how well-being can be nurtured and preserved.
A special highlight was the Student Conference, where participants gave short talks on self-chosen aspects of well-being that mattered most to them. Their ideas and reflections sparked vivid discussions and showed the diversity of approaches within the group.
Of course, there was also time to connect outside of the academic program, whether during a shared dinner, in multiple coffee breaks, or while exploring Berlin together.
An intense yet joyful week that left us with fresh ideas and new friends. But words can only tell part of the story- watch out for our photo gallery coming soon!
